BenedictRichardO'GormanAnderson(bornAugust26,1936)isAaronL.BinenkorbProfessorEmeritusofInternationalStudies,Government&AsianStudiesatCornellUniversity,andisbestknownforhiscelebratedbookImaginedCommunities,firstpublishedin1983.AndersonwasborninKunming,ChinatoJamesO'GormanandVeronicaBeatriceMaryAnderson,andin1941thefamilymovedtoCalifornia.[1]In1957,AndersonreceivedaBachelorofArtsinClassicsfromCambridgeUniversity,andhelaterearnedaPh.D.fromCornell'sIndonesianStudiesprogram.HeisthebrotherofhistorianPerryAnderson.
