In1984StephenKieran,FAIA,FAAR,andJamesTimberlake,FAIA,FAARfoundedthefirmKieranTimberlakeAssociatesLLP,locatedinPhiladelphia.KieranTimberlakeAssociatesLLPhasbeenawarded40designawardsduringthepast20years,includingtwoGoldMedalsandtwoDistinguishedBuildingAwardsfromtheAmericanInstituteofArchitects.StephenKieranreceivedhisBachelor'sdegreefromYaleUniversity,magnacumlaude,andhisMasterofArchitecturefromtheUniversityofPennsylvania.JamesTimberlakereceivedhisBachelor'sdegreefromtheUniversityofDetroit,withhonors,andhisMasterofArchitecturefromtheUniversityofPennsylvania,withhonors.StephenKieranandJamesTimberlakewererecipientsoftheRomePrize(in1981and1983respectively)fromtheAmericanAcademyinRome,andhaveservedasEeroSaarinenDistinguishedProfessorofDesignatYaleUniversity.Theywereawardedtheinaugural2001BenjaminLatrobeFellowshipforarchitecturaldesignresearchbytheAIACollegeofFellows.TheyarealsotheMaxFisherChairrecipientsattheUniversityofMichiganforSpring2004.TheycurrentlyserveasAdjunctProfessorsattheUniversityofPennsylvaniaSchoolofDesignwheretheyleadagraduateresearchstudiothatexplorestheemerginginterfacebetweenarchitectureashighartandtheintegrationofdevelopingtechnologiesinmaterialsscienceandproductengineering.Theylectureinternationallyabouttheprocessesandmethodsthatunderlietransfertechnologiesandwhathasbeentheirinvolvementinthisnewarchitecture.Theirfirm'sworkhasbeenpublishedandfeaturedinManual,theArchitectureofKieranTimberlake(PrincetonArchitecturalPress,2002);andnumerouspublicationsincludingArchitecturalRecord,CambridgeUniversity'sArchitecturalResearchQuarterly,Interiors,InteriorDesign,WIREDMagazine,andTheNewYorkTimes.
