Sincethe1970s，SciencePresshaspublishedmorethanthirtyvolumesinitsseriesMonographsinComputationalMethods.Thisserieswasestablishedandledbythelateacademician，FengKang，thefoundingdirectoroftheComputingCenteroftheChineseAcademyofSciences.Themonographserieshasprovidedtimelyinformationofthefrontierdirectionsandlatestresearchresultsincomputationalmathematics.Ithashadgreatimpactonyoungscientistsandtheentireresearchcommunity，andhasplayedaveryimportantroleinthedevelopmentofcomputationalmathematicsinChina.Tocopewiththesenewscientificdevelopments，theMinistryofEducationofthePeople'sRepublicofChinain1998combinedseveralsubjects，suchascomputationalmathematics，numericalalgorithms，informationscience，andoperationsresearchandoptimalcontrol，intoanewdisciplinecalledInformationandComputationalScience.Asaresult，SciencePressalsoreorganizedtheeditorialboardofthemonographseriesandchangeditsnametoSeriesinInformationandComputationalScience.ThefirsteditorialboardmeetingwasheldinBeijinginSeptember2004，anditdiscussedthenewobjectives，andthedirectionsandcontentsofthenewmonographseries.TheaimofthenewseriesistopresentthestateoftheartinInformationandComputationalSciencetoseniorundergraduateandgraduatestudents，aswellastoscientistsworkinginthesefields.Hence，theserieswillprovideconcreteandsystematicexpositionsoftheadvancesininformationandcomputationalscience，encompassingalsorelatedinterdisciplinarydevelopments.Iwouldliketothankthepreviouseditorialboardmembersandassistants，andallthemathematicianswhohavecontributedsignificantlytothemonographseriesonComputationalMethods.Asaresultoftheircontributionsthemonographseriesachievedanoutstandingreputationinthecommunity.IsincerelywishthatwewillextendthissupporttothenewSeriesinInformationandComputationalScience，sothatthenewseriescanequallyenhancethescientificdevelopmentininformationandcomputationalscienceinthiscentury.
