作者简介

Thesonofaminer,theprolificnovelist,poet,andtravelwriterDavidHerbertLawrencewasborninEastwood,Nottinghamshire,in1885.HeattendedNottinghamUniversityandfoundemploymentasaschoolteacher.Hisfirstnovel,TheWhitePeacock,waspublishedin1911,thesameyearhisbelovedmotherdiedandhequitteachingaftercontractingpneumonia.ThenextyearLawrencepublishedSonsandLoversandranofftoGermanywithFriedaWeekley,hisformertutor’swife.HismasterpiecesTheRainbowandWomeninLovewerecompletedinquicksuccession,butthefirstwassuppressedasindecentandthesecondwasnotpublisheduntil1920.Lawrence’slyricalwritingschallengedconvention,promotingareturntoanidealofnaturewheresexisseenasasacrament.In1928Lawrence’sfinalnovel,LadyChatterley’sLover,wasbannedinEnglandandtheUnitedStatesforindecency.Hediedoftuberculosisin1930inVenice.BlakeMorrisonhaswrittennumerousworks,includingThingsMyMotherNeverToldMe.
