JimDaviswasbornonJuly28,1945,inMarion,Indiana,andwaspromptlydroppedonhishead–whichcouldexplainhislifelongdesiretobeacartoonist.HelaterattendedBallStateUniversityinMuncie,wherehedistinguishedhimselfbyearningoneofthelowestcumulativegrade-pointaveragesinthehistoryoftheuniversity.(Incidentally,afellowclassmatenamedDavidLettermanearnedtheother.)TheGarfieldstripwasbornonJune19,1978,syndicatedin41U.S.newspapers.Todayit’srecognizedbyGuinnessWorldRecordsastheworld’smostwidelysyndicatedcomicstrip,appearingin2,570newspapersandreadbysome263millionreadersin111countriesaroundtheglobe.
