TonyJudtwasborninLondonin1948.HewaseducatedatKing'sCollege,CambridgeandtheEcoleNormaleSuperieure,Paris,andhastaughtatCambridge,Oxford,BerkeleyandNewYorkUniversity,whereheiscurrentlyUniversityProfessorandDirectoroftheRemarqueInstitute,whichisdedicatedtothestudyofEuropeandwhichhefoundedin1995.Theauthororeditoroftwelvebooks,heisafrequentcontributortoTheNewYorkReviewofBooks,theTimesLiterarySupplement,TheNewRepublic,andTheNewYorkTimes.Hismostrecentbook,Postwar:AHistoryofEuropesince1945,wasoneoftheNewYorkTimesBookReview'sTenBestBooksof2005,thewinneroftheCouncilonForeignRelationsArthurRossBookAward,andafinalistforthePulitzerPrize.In2007hewasawardedtheHannahArendtPrize.
