JohnHerseywasborninTientsin,China,in1914,andlivedthereuntil1925,whenhisfamilyreturnedtotheUnitedStates.HestudiedatYaleandClareCollege,Cambridge,servedforatimeasSinclairLewis'ssecretary,andthenworkedforseveralyearsasajournalist.Hepublishedseventeenworksoffiction,includingthePulitzerPrizewinningABellforAdano.BesidesHiroshimawhichwasfirstpublishedin1946,hewrotesixbooksofessaysandreportage.Hediedin1993.
