OscarWildewasborninDublinon16October1854.HestudiedatTrinityCollege,DublinandMagdalenCollege,Oxford.HethenlivedinLondonandmarriedConstanceLloydin1884.WildewasaleaderoftheAestheticMovement.HebecamefamousbecauseoftheimmensesuccessofhisplayssuchasLadyWindemere'sFanandTheImportanceofBeingEarnest.Hisonlynovel,ThePictureofDorianGray,wasfirstpublishedinLippincott'sMonthlyMagazinein1890butwasrevisedin1891aftermoralisticnegativereviews.AfterapublicscandalinvolvingWilde'srelationshipwithLordAlfredDouglas,hewassentencedtotwoyears'hardlabourinReadingGaolfor'grossindecency'.HispoemTheBalladofReadingGaolwaspublishedanonymouslyin1898.WildeneverlivedinEnglandagainanddiedattheageofforty-sixinParison30November1900.HeisburiedinPèreLachaisecemeterywhereadmirersoftenleavethelipstickmarksofkissesonhistomb.AlexisDeacongraduatedfromtheUniversityofBrighton,wherehestudiedIllustration,gainingafirstclasshonoursdegree.AlexisDeaconwasoneofBooktrust'stenBestNewIllustratorsin2008,andBeeguwasaNewYorkTimesBookReviewBestIllustratedBookoftheYearandshortlistedfortheKateGreenawayMedal.AlexislivesinLondon.
