FrankMcCourt(1930-2009)wasbornininBrooklyn,NewYork,toIrishimmigrantparents,grewupinLimerick,Ireland,andreturnedtoAmericain1949.ForthirtyyearshetaughtinNewYorkCityhighschools.Hisfirstbook,Angela'sAshes,wonthePulitzerPrize,theNationalBookCriticsCircleAwardandtheL.A.TimesBookAward.In2006,hewontheprestigiousEllisIslandFamilyHeritageAwardforExemplaryServiceintheFieldoftheArtsandtheUnitedFederationofTeachersJohnDeweyAwardforExcellenceinEducation.
