EvertVandeVliertisanorganizationalpsychologistwithexperienceasinternal(1967-1971)andexternalorganizationconsultant(1977-1983).AfterreceivinghisPhDfromtheFreeUniversityinAmsterdamin1973,heheldteacherandresearcherpositionsatthesameuniversity,attheUniversityofSt.AndrewsinScotland,andattheRoyalMilitaryAcademyinTheNetherlands.Heservedasmemberofmanyeditorialboards,aschairmanoftheDutchResearchAssociationofSocialandOrganizationalPsychologists(1984-1989),asresearchdirectoroftheKurtLewinInstitute(1993-1996),andasmemberoftheinternationaladvisoryboardoftheCenterforSocialandEconomicBehavioroftheChineseAcademyofSciences(2001-2006).ProfessorVandeVlierthaspublishedmorethan200journalarticles,chapters,andbooksincludingComplexInterpersonalConflictBehaviour:TheoreticalFrontiers(PsychologyPress,1997)andClimate,Affluence,andCulture(CambridgeUniversityPress,2009).HewasappointedasCompanionintheOrderofOrange-Nassauin2004,andreceivedtheLifetimeAchievementAwardoftheInternationalAssociationforConflictManagementin2005.Atpresent,heisProfessorEmeritusofOrganizationalandAppliedSocialPsychologyattheUniversityofGroningeninTheNetherlands,andResearchProfessorofWorkandOrganizationalPsychologyattheUniversityofBergeninNorway.
