VladimirVladimirovichNabokovwasbornonApril23,1899,inSt.Petersburg,Russia.TheNabokovswereknownfortheirhighcultureandcommitmenttopublicservice,andtheelderNabokovwasanoutspokenopponentofantisemitismandoneoftheleadersoftheoppositionparty,theKadets.In1919,followingtheBolshevikrevolution,hetookhisfamilyintoexile.FouryearslaterhewasshotandkilledatapoliticalrallyinBerlinwhiletryingtoshieldthespeakerfromright-wingassassins.
