EdithWharton(1862–1937)wasanAmericannovelist,shortstorywriter,anddesigner.NominatedthreetimesfortheNobelPrizeinLiterature,shereceivedthePulitzerPrizeforTheAgeofInnocencein1921.Whartondrewuponherprivilegedsocialpositiontocreatewittyandpsychologicallyinsightfulnovelsandshortstories.OgdenCodman,Jr.(1863–1951)wasanotedAmericanarchitectandinteriordecoratorintheBeaux-Artstradition.HismanyfamousdesignsincludeWharton'sresidencesLand'sEndandTheMountaswellasherParkAvenuetownhouse;theVanderbilts'Newporthome,TheBreakers;andtheCodman-DavisHouseinWashington,D.C.
