Phenomenology and Sociology

Thephysicalandsocialsciencesbothsplitawayfromphilosophyasanencompassingtheoryofhumanlife.However,the20thcenturydevelopmentofphenomenologyanditsradicalnewperspectiveilluminatesthehumanworldandreinstateshumanexperienceinitsplaceatthecenterofthinkingabouttheworld.Phenomenology,then,hasjustrecentlybecomeanobviouscandidateasaphilosophicalandtheoreticallensthroughwhichthesocialsciencescouldbeginseeingtheworldwithafresh(andarguably,moreaccurate)analysis.Thereadingsinthisvolumearedesignedtoillustratefromvariousviewpointstherelationsbetweenmethods,domains,andgoalsofthetwodisciplines-sociologyandphenomenology-andalsotoclearupsomeoftheconfusionsthathavedoggedphenomenology.
