VirginiaWoolf(January25,1882-March28,1941)wasaEnglishauthorandfeminist.BornAdelineVirginiaStephensinLondonshewasbroughtupandeducatedathome.In1895followingthedeathofhermothershehadthefirstofnumerousnervousbreakdowns.Followingthedeathofherfather(SirLeslieStephen,aliterarycritic)in1904,shemovedwithhersisterandtwobrotherstoahouseinBloomsbury.Shebeganwritingprofessionallyin1905,initiallyfortheTimesLiterarySupplement.In1912shemarriedLeonardWoolf,acivilservantandpoliticaltheorist.Herfirstnovel,TheVoyageOut,waspublishedin1915.Betweenthewars,WoolfwasasignificantfigureinLondonliterarysocietyandamemberoftheBloomsburygroup.InMarch1941,WoolfdrownedherselfintheRiverOuse,nearherRomdellresidence.Shehadpublishedten(?)novelsandover500essays.
