ArevisedandupdatededitionofthiscomprehensivevolumededicatedtoWright’sonlyplantationdesign.AlthoughFrankLloydWrightdesignedmorethan1,000projectsduringhislongandprolificcareer,AuldbrassPlantation,inYemassee,SouthCarolina,istheonlyplantationheeverdesigned.Itisalsooneofthelargestandmostcomplexprojectsheeverundertook.WrighthadanunusuallyintensecommitmenttoAuldbrass,andworkedonit,offandon,formorethantwentyyears,from1938untilhisdeathin1959.BecauseAuldbrasswasprivateandbecauseitfellintodisrepairinthe1960saftertheowners'death,itwasrarelyphotographedorstudied,andasaconsequencelittlehasbeenknownaboutthismajorwork.Witharecentlycompletedrestorationandnewphotography,thisbookaffordsarareopportunitytoseeoneofWright'sgreatestworks,asthemasterhimselforiginallyenvisionedit.Throughphotos,plans,anddrawings,weseewhatWrightplanned,andhowithasfinallyallbeeneitherrestoredorrealizedforthefirsttime.In1986,filmproducerJoelSilver(DieHard,LethalWeapon,48Hours,Predator,RomeoMustDie,TheMatrix,andoverfortyotherfilms)boughtAuldbrass.HehadearlierboughtandmeticulouslyrestoredWright'sfamous1923StorerHouseinHollywood.NowhehasagaincollaboratedwithWright'sgrandson,architectEricLloydWright,whorestoredtheStorerHouse,torestoretheAuldbrassPlantation.
