WangariMutaMaathaiwasborninNyeri,Kenya,in1940.SheisthefounderoftheGreenBeltMovement,which,throughnetworksofruralwomen,hasplantedover30milliontreesacrossKenyasince1977.In2002,shewaselectedtoKenya'sParliamentinthefirstfreeelectionsinageneration,andin2003,shewasappointedDeputyMinisterfortheEnvironmentandNaturalResources.TheNobelPeacePrizelaureateof2004,shehasthreegrownchildrenandlivesandworksinNairobi.
