作者简介

RobertLouisStevensonwasbornin1850inEdinburgh.Hisfatherwasanengineer,theheadofafamilyfirmthathadconstructedmostofScotland'slighthouses,andthefamilyhadacomfortableincome.Stevensonwasanonlychildandwasoftenill;asaresult,hewasmuchcoddledbybothhisparentsandhislong-timenurse.ThefamilytookfrequenttripstosouthernEuropetoescapethecruelEdinburghwinters,tripsthat,alongwithhismanyillnesses,causedStevensontomissmuchofhisformalschooling.HeenteredEdinburghUniversityin1867,intendingtobecomeanengineerandenterthefamilybusiness,buthewasadesultory,disengagedstudentandnevertookadegree.In1871,Stevensonswitchedhisstudytolaw,aprofessionwhichwouldleavetimeforhisalready-buddingliteraryambitions,andhemanagedtopassthebarin1875.
