PeterRobinsonwasborninCastleford,Yorkshire,in1950.HereceivedaB.A.HonoursDegreeinEnglishliteraturefromtheUniversityofLeeds,movedtoCanada,andwentontoearnaM.A.inEnglishandcreativewritingfromtheUniversityofWindsorandaPh.D.inEnglishfromYorkUniversity.Hisfirstnovel,GallowsView(1987),introducedDetectiveChiefInspectorAlanBanksandbecamethefirstbookintheInspectorBanksMysteryseries.HisotherworksincludeCaedmon'sSong,NoCureforLove,andNotSafeafterDarkandOtherStories.PastReasonHatedwontheCrimeWritersofCanada'sArthurEllisAwardforBestNovelin1992.FinalAccount(1994)wonanAuthor'sAwardfromtheFoundationfortheAdvancementofCanadianLetters.HehasalsopublishedmanyshortstoriesinanthologiesandinElleryQueen'sMysteryMagazine,includingInnocence,whichwontheCWCBestShortStoryAward,andTheTwoLadiesofRoseCottage,whichwonaMacavityAward.HehastaughtatanumberofTorontocollegesandservedasWriter-in-ResidenceattheUniversityofWindsor,Ontario,1992-93.
