TheAustraliancontributiontotheAlliedwareffortduringWorldWarIisworthyofcelebration.Some400,000Australiansvolunteeredforactiveduty,anastonishing13percentoftheentire(white)malepopulation,anumbersogreatthattheAustraliangovernmentwasneverforcedtorelyonconscription.Casualtieswereanastonishing52percentofallthosewhoserved,ensuringthattheeffectsofthewarwouldbefeltlongafterthearmistice.Inparticular,theirepicendeavoursatGallipoliin1915becamethenation'sfoundinglegend,andtheANZACswentontodistinguishthemselvesbothontheWesternFront,andinGeneralAllenby'sgreatcavalrycampaignagainsttheTurksintheMiddleEast.TheiruniformsandinsigniawerealsosignificantlydifferentfromthoseoftheBritishArmyandwillprovidetheinspirationforauniquesetofartworkplates.
