SamuelPhillipsHuntington(April18,1927–December24,2008)wasaninfluentialpoliticalscientistfromtheUnitedStatesofAmericawhoseworkscoveredmultiplesub-fieldsofpoliticalscience.HegainedwiderprominencethroughhisClashofCivilizations(1993,1996)thesisofapost-ColdWarnewworldorder.HewasamemberofHarvard'sdepartmentofgovernmentfrom1950untilhewasdeniedtenurein1959.From1959to1962hewasanassociateprofessorofgovernmentatColumbiaUniversitywherehewasalsoDeputyDirectorofTheInstituteforWarandPeaceStudies.HuntingtonwasinvitedtoreturntoHarvardwithtenurein1963andremainedthereuntilhisdeath.HewaselectedaFellowoftheAmericanAcademyofArtsandSciencesin1965.HuntingtonandWarrenDemianManshelco-foundedandco-editedForeignPolicy.Huntingtonstayedasco-editoruntil1977.
