BradleyMayhewwasborninSevenoaks,Kentin1970andcurrentlylivesinYellowstoneCounty,Montana.AdegreeinOrientalStudies(Chinese)atOxfordUniversitykickstarted20yearsofindependenttravelintheremotercornersofAsiaandacareerwritingguidebooks.Withhisclassmate,hewrotetheOdysseyGuidetoUzbekistan,thefirstguidebooktothecountry,in1995.Hehassincewrittenover25guidesforLonelyPlanet,specialisinginCentralAsia,Tibet,Bhutan,Nepal,ChinaandYellowstoneNationalPark.Inthecourseofhisresearchtripshe'sbeenarrestedintheTajikistanPamirs,forcedtomakeaself-criticisminTibet,sleptinacupboardinNicaraguaandspentwaytoomuchtimeeatingmuttonkebabsacrossinnerAsia.BradleyhasalsowrittenforInsightguidesandRoughGuidesandhaslecturedonCentralAsiatotheRoyalGeographicalSociety.HewasrecentlyseenretracingtherouteofMarcoPoloforafive-hourGermanTVdocumentary(Arte/SWR),airingin2011.
