Thestatisticalbootstrapisoneofthemethodsthatcanbeusedtocalculateestimatesofacertainnumberofunknownparametersofarandomprocessorasignalobservedinnoise,basedonarandomsample.Suchsituationsarecommoninsignalprocessingandthebootstrapisespeciallyusefulwhenonlyasmallsampleisavailableorananalyticalanalysisistoocumbersomeorevenimpossible.Thisbookcoversthefoundationsofthebootstrap,itsproperties,itsstrengthsanditslimitations.TheauthorsfocusonbootstrapsignaldetectioninGaussianandnon-Gaussianinterferenceaswellasbootstrapmodelselection.ThetheorydevelopedinthebookissupportedbyanumberofusefulpracticalexampleswritteninMATLAB.Thebookisaimedatgraduatestudentsandengineers,andincludesapplicationstoreal-worldproblemsinareassuchasradarandsonar,biomedicalengineeringandautomotiveengineering.

AbdelhakM.ZoubirreceivedtheDipl.-Ingdegree(BSc/BEng)fromFachhochschuleNiederrhein,Germany,in1983,theDipl.-Ing.(MSc/MEng)andtheDr.-Ing.(PhD)degreefromRuhrUniversityBochum,Germany,in1987and1992,allinElectricalEngineering.Earlyplacementinindustry(Kl?ckner-MoellerandSiempelkampAG)wasthenfollowedbyAssociateLectureshipintheDivisionforSignalTheoryatRuhrUniversityBochum,Germany.InJune1992,hejoinedQueenslandUniversityofTechnologywherehewasLecturer,SeniorLecturerandthenAssociateProfessorintheSchoolofElectricalandElectronicSystemsEngineering.InMarch1999,hetookupthepositionofProfessorofTelecommunicationsatCurtinUniversityofTechnology,wherehewasHeadoftheSchoolofElectrical&ComputerEngineeringfromNovember2001untilFebruary2003.InFebruary2003hetookupthepositionofProfessorinSignalProcessingatDarmstadtUniversityofTechnology.DrZoubir'sgeneralresearchinterestliesinstatisticalmethodsforsignalprocessingwithapplicationsincommunications,sonar,radar,biomedicalengineeringandvibrationanalysis.Hiscurrentresearchinterestliesinrobustestimationandinbootstraptechniquesforspectrumestimationandthemodellingofnon-stationaryandnon-Gaussiansignals.HewastheGeneralCo-ChairmanoftheThirdIEEEInternationalSymposiumonSignalProcessingandInformationTechnology(ISSPIT)heldinDarmstadtinDecember2003,theTechnicalChairmanofthe11thIEEEWorkshoponStatisticalSignalprocessingheldinSingaporeinAugust2001andDeputyTechnicalChairman(SpecialSessions/Tutorials)ofICASSP-94heldinAdelaide.HeservedasanAssociateEditoroftheIEEETransactionsonSignalProcessingfrom1999until2005andiscurrentlyAssociateEditoroftheEURASIPjournalsSignalProcessingandtheJournalofAppliedSignalProcessing.DrZoubirisaMemberoftheIEEESPSTechnicalCommitteesonSignalProcessingTheoryandMD.RobertIskanderreceivedhisPh.D.fromQueenslandUniversityofTechnology.HeiscurrentlyaseniorlecturerintheSchoolofEngineeringatGriffithUniversity,Australia.HeisalsoavisitingresearchfellowintheCentreforEyeResearchatQueenslandUniversityofTechnology.Hehaspublishedover50technicalpapers,infieldssuchasstatisticalsignalprocessing,visualoptics,andophthalmicinstrumentation.
