RobertHeimannisprofessoremeritusoftechnicalmineralogyandmaterialsscience.HeobtainedhisacademicdegreesfromFreieUniversitat(FU)Berlin,andsubsequentlyservedasafacultymemberatFUBerlinandUniversitatKarlsruhe.From1979onheworkedinCanadaasaresearchassociate(McMasterUniversity),seniorresearcher(3MCanadaInc.),staffgeochemist(AtomicEnergyofCanadaLimited),andresearchmanager(AlbertaResearchCounci8l).From1993to2004hewasafullprofessoratTUBergakademieFreiberg.ProfessorHeimannhasauthoredover260scientificpublications,severalbooksandbookchapters,andin2001wasawardedtheGeorg-Agricola-MedaloftheGermanMineralogicalSociety(DMG)forhisoutstandinglifetimeachievementsinappliedmineralogy.HeisnowpresidentofaconsultingcompanyandalsoontheeditorialboardofElsevier'sSurfaceandCoatingTechnologyjournal.
