ErnestMillerHemingwaywasborninChicagoin1899asthesonofadoctorandthesecondofsixchildren.AfterastintasanambulancedriverattheItalianfront,HemingwaycamehometoAmericain1919,onlytoreturntothebattlefield-thistimeasareporterontheGreco-Turkishwar-in1922.Resigningfromjournalismtofocusonhiswritinginstead,hemovedtoPariswhereherenewedhisearlierfriendshipwithfellowAmericanexpatriatessuchasEzraPoundandGertrudeStein.Throughtheyears,Hemingwaytravelledwidelyandwroteavidly,becominganinternationallyrecognizedliterarymasterofhiscraft.HereceivedtheNobelPrizeforLiteraturein1954,followingthepublicationofTheOldManandtheSea.Hediedin1961.
