JamesD.WatsonwasdirectorofColdSpringHarborLaboratoryinNewYorkfrom1968to1993andisnowitschancelloremeritus.HewasthefirstdirectoroftheNationalCenterforHumanGenomeResearchoftheNationalInstitutesofHealthfrom1989to1992.AmemberoftheNationalAcademyofSciencesandtheRoyalSociety,hehasreceivedtheCopleyMedaloftheRoyalSocietyandisaKnightoftheBritishEmpire(KBE).HehasalsoreceivedthePresidentialMedalofFreedom,theNationalMedalofScience,and,withFrancisCrickandMauriceWilkins,theNobelPrizeinPhysiologyorMedicinein1962.
