ErnestMillerHemingway(July21,1899–July2,1961)wasanAmericannovelist,short-storywriter,andjournalist.Nicknaminghimself"Papa"whilestillinhis20s,hewaspartofthe1920sexpatriatecommunityinParisknownas"theLostGeneration",asdescribedinhismemoirAMoveableFeast.Heledaturbulentsociallife,wasmarriedfourtimesandallegedlyhadmultipleextra-maritalrelationshipsovermanyyears'time.Foraseriouswriter,heachievedararecult-likepopularityduringhislifetime.HemingwayreceivedthePulitzerPrizein1953forTheOldManandtheSea.HereceivedtheNobelPrizeinLiteraturein1954.Throughouthislifehehadfourwives.Duringhislaterlife,Hemingwaysufferedfromincreasingphysicalandmentalproblems.InJuly1961,followinganill-advisedprematurereleasefromamentalhospitalwherehe'dbeentreatedforseveredepression,hecommittedsuicideathishomeinKetchum,Idahowithashotgun.
