Future Systems

FutureSystemsisanarchitecturalanddesignpractice,establishedin1979,whohavesurprisedthearchitecturalworldwiththeirdaringformsandinventivedesignphilosophythatmergesmodernideaswithnaturalshapesandtechnologicalinnovationsfromotherfields.Afterestablishingthemselveswithcreativeprojectsandarchitecturalcompetitions(2ndPlace,InternationalCompetition,BibliothequedeFrance,Paris,1989)theysoonobtainedwiderrecognitionwiththeLord'sCricketGroundMediaCentre(1994).TheywentontogainotherimportantcommissionsfromfashionnameslikeCommedesGarcons(1998)andMarni(1999)andtodayarecelebratedfortheirnewflagshipstoreforSelfridgesinBirmingham(2003)(featuredonmorethanfifteenmagazinecovers).Thisbookpresentsaselectionofworkfromthelasttwenty-fiveyears,somepreviouslyunpublished.ItcelebratesthefinishedaccomplishmentsforwhichFutureSystemsarerecognizedtoday,aswellaslookingatmorerecentproposalsandconceptsthatcontinuetheirforward-lookingphilosophy,suchastheMaseratiMuseum,Modena(2004).Organizedaccordingtothemessuchasobjects,houses,shoppingandlandmarks,thisinnovativeformatwillalsopresentwell-knownworksinanewlight,permittingafreshappreciationofFutureSystems'oeuvretoday,attheirhighestpointofpublicacclaim.
