Andrew("Andy")StephenGrove(born2Sept1936),isaHungarian-bornJewish-AmericanBusinessman/Engineer,Author&asciencepioneerinthesemiconductorindustry.HeescapedfromCommunist-controlledHungaryattheageof20andmovedtotheU.S.,wherehefinishedhiseducation.HelaterbecameCEOofIntelandwasapioneeringfigureintransformingthecompanyintoagiant.In1968,alongwithcolleaguesRobertNoyceandGordonMoore,Groveco-foundedIntelCorporationafterthethreeleftFairchildSemiconductor.Hebecamethestart-upcompany'schiefoperatingofficer(COO),wherehedirectedallmanagementfunctions,andin1987becameitschiefexecutiveofficer(CEO).DuringhistenureasCEO,GroveoversawanincreaseinIntel'sstockvalueby2,400%,makingitoneoftheworld'smostvaluablecompanies.WithGrovemanagingdevelopmentandpromotionofIntel'smicroprocessors,theywould,inthe1980s,beusedtopowerallIBMPCsaswellasthoseofIBM'scompetitors.AsaresultofhisworkatIntel,andfromhisbooksandprofessionalarticles,Grovehadaconsiderableinfluenceonthemanagementofmodernelectronicsmanufacturingindustriesworldwide.Hehasbeencalledthe"guywhodrovethegrowthphase"ofSiliconValley.OnesourcenotesthatbyhisaccomplishmentsatIntelalone,he"meritsaplacealongsidethegreatbusinessleadersofthe20thcentury."Hehasreceivednumerousindustryawards,includingtheIEEEEngineeringLeadershipRecognitionaward(1987),andtheAeAMedalofAchievementaward(1993).In1997,CEOmagazinechosehimasits"CEOoftheYear,"andTimemagazinemadehim"ManoftheYear."
