EgonSchiele(b.1890,Tullin,Austria;d.1918Vienna)isnowrecognizedasamajorfigureinthedevelopmentoftheExpressionistmovement.In1906,heenrolledintheAkademiederBildendenKünsteinVienna,butfeltfrustratedwiththeschool'sconservatism.HelefttheAkademiein1909tofoundNeukunstgruppewithseveralotherstudents.In1907,hebefriendedfellowartistGustavKlimt,aswellasseveralcollectorswhoencouragedhiswork.In1911,SchieleleftViennaandthefollowingyearhewasjailedfor24daysonaccountof"immortalityandseduction"forhangingnudeportraitsinhishomevisibletoapasserbyandemployingyounggirlsasmodels.Hediedattheyoungageof28onHalloweennightin1918,thevictimofinfluenza.
