E.A.WallisBudgewastheCuratorofEgyptianandAssyrianAntiquitiesattheBritishMuseumfrom1894to1924.Bestknownforhisnumeroustranslatorworks,BudgecollectedalargenumberofCoptic,Greek,Arabic,Syriac,Ethiopian,andEgyptianPapyrimanuscripts.HewasalsoinvolvedinnumerousarchaeologydigsinEgypt,MesopotamiaandtheSudan.BudgeisperhapsbestknownfortranslatingTheEgyptianBookofTheDead(alsoknownasThePapyrusofAni),aswellasanalyzingmanyofthepracticesofEgyptianreligion,languageandritual.Budgewasknightedin1920.HediedNovember23,1934inLondon,England.JohnRomergraduatedfromtheRoyalCollegeofArtin1966andbeganhisworkinMiddleEasternarchaeologyshortlythereafter,conductingthefirstphysicalsurveyandconservationstudiesintheValleyoftheKings,andexcavatingthetombofRamessesXI.RomerhasalsodedicatedagreatpartofhistimetoarchaeologicalconservationandhasmademanyTVandradiodocumentaries,tointernationalcriticalacclaim.Besidesnumerousspecialistarticlesandreports,hisbookshaveincludedValleyoftheKings;AncientLives.HislatestbookisTheGreatPyramid;ancientEgyptrevisited(2007).
