JamesC.Scott(bornDecember2,1936)isaAmericanSterlingProfessorofPoliticalScienceandAnthropologyatYaleUniversity.HeisalsothedirectorofthePrograminAgrarianStudiesandanotedanarchistscholar.ScottisaFellowoftheAmericanAcademyofArtsandSciences,hasheldgrantsfromtheNationalScienceFoundation,theNationalEndowmentfortheHumanities,andtheJohnSimonGuggenheimMemorialFoundation,andhasbeenafellowattheCenterforAdvancedStudyintheBehavioralScience,Science,TechnologyandSocietyProgramatM.I.T.,andtheInstituteforAdvancedStudy,Princeton.ScottlivesinConnecticut,whereheraisessheep.Hereceivedhisbachelor'sdegreefromWilliamsCollegeandhisMAandPhD(politicalscience,1967)fromYale.HetaughtattheUniversityofWisconsin–Madisonuntil1976,whenhereturnedtoYale.
