RusselJacob(Jake)Baker(S’83-M’88-SM’97)wasborninOgden,Utah,onOctober5,1964.HereceivedtheB.S.andM.S.degreesinelectricalengineeringfromtheUniversityofNevada,LasVegas,in1986and1988.HereceivedthePh.D.degreeinelectricalengineeringfromtheUniversityofNevada,Renoin1993.From1981to1987,heservedintheUnitedStatesMarineCorpsReserves.From1985to1993,heworkedforE.G.&G.EnergyMeasurementsandtheLawrenceLivermoreNationalLaboratorydesigningnucleardiagnosticinstrumentationforundergroundnuclearweaponstestsattheNevadatestsite.Duringthistimehedesignedover30electronicandelectro-opticinstrumentsincludinghigh-speed(750Mb/s)fiber-opticreceiver/transmitters,PLLs,frame-andbit-syncs,dataconverters,streak-camerasweepcircuits,Pockell’scelldrivers,micro-channelplategatingcircuits,andanalogoscilloscopeelectronics.From1993to2000,heservedonthefacultyinthedepartmentofelectricalengineeringattheUniversityofIdahoontheBoiseStatecampus.In2000,hejoinedanewelectricalandcomputerengineeringprogramatBoiseStateUniversity,whereheservedasdepartmentchairfrom2004to2007.AtBoiseStatehehelpedestablishgraduateprogramsinelectricalandcomputerengineeringincluding,in2006,theuniversity’ssecondPhDdegree.Also,since1993,hehasconsultedforvariouscompaniesandlaboratoriesincluding:AeriusPhotonics,Arete’Associates,Amkor,ContourSemiconductor,theLawrenceBerkeleyLaboratory,Micron,Nascentric,Oracle,Rendition,Sun,andTower.Hisresearchinterestslieinanalog/mixed-signalintegratedcircuitdesign(combininganalogcircuitdesignwithdigitalsignalprocessing)andthedesignofmemory/displays/imagers(arrays)innewandemergingfabricationtechnologies.Jakeholdsover200grantedorpendingpatentsinintegratedcircuitdesign.AmonghisinventionsistheK-Delta-1-SigmamodulatortopologyusedintheBakeranalog-to-digitalconverter.HeisamemberoftheelectricalengineeringhonorsocietyEtaKappaNu,alicensedProfessionalEngineer,andtheauthorofthebooksCMOSCircuitDesign,Layout,andSimulation,CMOSMixed-SignalCircuitDesign,andacoauthorofDRAMCircuitDesign:FundamentalandHigh-SpeedTopics.Hereceivedthe2000BestPaperAwardfromtheIEEEPowerElectronicsSociety,the2007FrederickEmmonsTermanAward,andthe2011IEEECircuitsandSystems(CAS)EducationAward.JakecurrentlyservesontheIEEESolid-StateCircuitsSocietyAdministrativeCommittee(AdCom)andaseditorfortheWiley-IEEEPressbookSeriesonMicroelectronicSystems.
