KahlilGibranwasbornin1883inLebanonanddiedinNewYorkin1931.HisfamilyemigratedtotheUnitedStatesin1895.Inhisearlyteens,theartistryofGibran'sdrawingscaughttheeyeofhisteachersandhewasintroducedtotheavant-gardeBostonartist,photographer,andpublisherFredHollandDay,whoencouragedandsupportedGibraninhiscreativeendeavors.ApublisherusedsomeofGibran'sdrawingsforbookcoversin1898,andGibranheldhisfirstartexhibitionin1904inBoston.In1908,GibranwenttostudyartwithAugusteRodininParisfortwoyears.HelaterstudiedartinBoston.WhilemostofGibran'searlywritingwasinArabic,mostofhisworkpublishedafter1918wasinEnglish.Gibran'sbest-knownworkisTheProphet,abookcomposedof26poeticessays.,,
