DrGrantBlashki(MD,MBBS,FRACGP)isapractisingGP,aFellowoftheRoyalAustralianCollegeofGeneralPractitionersandaSeniorLectureratMonashUniversity(honorary),UniversityofMelbourneandKingsCollegeLondon(honorary).Hehasastrongcommitmenttoimprovingmentalhealthcareinprimarycaresettingsandhaswrittenover30peerreviewedpublicationsaswellasundertakennumerousresearchprojectsrelatingtothisfield.ForoveradecadehehasworkedcloselywithProfessorFionaJuddandProfessorLeonPiterman,developinggeneralpractitionertraininginpsychiatry,includingnationalandinternationalconferencesanddevelopingamastersofgeneralpracticepsychiatry.HehasbeenparticularlyinspiredbyhisfatherDrTimBlashki,whoundertookpioneeringgeneralpracticepsychiatryresearchinthelate1960s.LeonPiterman(Mmed,MedSt,MRCP,FRACGP)isProfessorofGeneralPractice,HeadoftheSchoolofPrimaryHealthCareandSeniorDeputyDeanoftheFacultyofMedicine,NursingandHealthSciencesatMonashUniversity.Havinggraduatedin1971fromtheUniversityofMelbourne,afteranumberofresidencypostsinMelbourneandLondon,hecombinedclinicalgeneralpracticewithapart-timeacademiccareeratMonashuntil1993,whenhetookupthepostofDirectorofGraduateStudiesintheDepartmentofGeneralPractice.HeisresponsibleforestablishingAustralia'slargestandmostsuccessfuluniversitybasedDiploma/MastersinFamilyMedicineforgeneralpractitioners.Thisprogramhasproducedover1000graduatesnationallyandinternationally.In1996,alongwithFionaJuddandGrantBlashki,hewasresponsibleforestablishingtheGeneralPracticePsychiatryProgram,whichledtothedevelopmentoftheGraduateCertificateandMastersinGeneralPracticePsychiatryandlaidthefoundationsforresearchinPrimaryCareMentalHealthatMonashUniversity.Hisotheracademicinterestsareinmedicaleducation,cardiovasculardiseaseandchronicdiseasemanagement.
