DavidDrakewasattendingDukeUniversityLawSchoolwhenhewasdrafted.HeservedthenexttwoyearsintheArmy,spending1970asanenlistedinterrogatorwiththe11tharmoredCavalryinVietNamandCambodia.UponreturnhecompletedhislawdegreeatDukeandwasforeightyearsAssistantTownAttorneyforChapelHill,NorthCarolina.Hehasbeenafull-timefreelancewritersince1981.Hestartedhiscareerwriting"weird"fictionanddarkfantasy.Hisbooksincludethegenre-definingandbestselling“Hammer’sSlammers”series,the“RCN”seriesincludingIntheStormyRedSky,TheWaytoGlory,andmanymore.
