HansAugustoReywasborninHamburg,Germanyin1898.Asachild,hespentmuchofhisfreetimeinthatcity'sfamousHagenbeckZoodrawinganimals.AfterservinginthearmyduringWorldWarI,hestudiedphilologyandnaturalscienceattheUniversityofHamburg.HethenmarriedMargretReyandtheymovedtoMontmartreforfouryears.ThemanuscriptforthefirstCuriousGeorgebookswasoneofthefewitemstheReyscarriedwiththemontheirbicycleswhentheyescapedfromParisin1940.Eventually,theymadetheirwaytotheUnitedStates,andCuriousGeorgewaspublishedin1941.CuriousGeorgehasbeenpublishedinmanylanguages,includingFrench,German,Japanese,Afrikaans,andNorwegian.AdditionalCuriousGeorgebooksfollowed,aswellassuchotherfavoritesasCECILYG.ANDTHENINEMONKEYSandFINDTHECONSTELLATIONS.
