KarlPearson(1857–1936)wasapolymaththinkerwellknownforfoundingthedisciplineofmathematicalstatistics,aswellasforbeingacontroversialproponentofeugenics.Firstpublishedin1887,andpresentedhereinitsoriginalGermanform,thisvolumerelatestothelegendssurroundingSaintVeronica,thepiousJerusalemwomanwhoreputedlyofferedherveiltoJesusashewalkedtoGolgotha,andthenfoundanimageofhisfaceimpressedupontheveilafterhehadwipedhisbrowwithit.Thetextiswellpresented,withnumerousillustrativeexamples,andwillbeofvaluetoanyonewithaninterestinthestoryofVeronicaandChristiansymbolismingeneral.
