Airport Architecture

Airportstodayaremuchmorethangatewaystocities,countriesorcontinents.Theyhavedevelopedintocity-likecomplexesandmultifunctionalsystems,whichwhilebeingsetuptoservetheneedsofsmoothlyrunningairtraffic,atthesametimehavetakenonallthefunctionsofanormalcommunity:sleeping,shopping,workandleisuretimeandallthatincreasinglywith24-7access.Afteraneraofpurelyfunctionalarchitecture,thenodalpointsofairtraffichavebecomeoneofthemostprominentarchitecturaltasksofthepresent.Drawingon60examples,thisvolumeshowstheexcitingmultiplicityofcontemporaryairportconstructionanddesign.Theprojectspresentedinthisvolumeincludethenewestlargescaleairports,aswellaslongtermbuildingprojects,smallerairportsatmoreremotelocationsaswellasexpansionsandindividualnewfunctionalareaslikeairtrafficcontrolcenters,hangarsorlounges.
