MarySoamesistheyoungestandonlysurvivingchildofWinstonandClementineChurchill.Shewasbornin1922andbroughtupatChartwellinKent.In1941,agedeighteen,shejoinedtheATSandservedinmixedanti-aircraftbatteriesinEnglandandEurope.SheaccompaniedherfatherashisADConseveralofhiswartimeoverseasjourneys.In1945shewasawardedtheMBE(military).In1947shemarriedCaptainChristopherSoames,ColdstreamGuards,laterLordSoames,PC,GCMG,CH.Shehasalsowrittenhermother'sbiography,ClementineChurchillandeditedSpeakingForThemselves,thepersonallettersbetweenherparents.
