SpawnedbyacommissionfromfashiondesignerMarcJacobsforanadvertisingcampaign,"OhneTitel"isacollectionoflargelyunpublishedimagesofJuergenTellerandCindySherman,whichderivefromJacobs'initialconcept.Bothartistsareknownforblurringboundaries:filmandfashion,advertisingandart,publicandprivate,realandfictitious.Shermanmadehernamewiththe"UntitledFilmStills"series(1977-1980),inwhichsheplayedanumberofmysteriouscharactersvaguelyreminiscentofscenesininternationalcinema.JuergenTeller'sdebutwasmarkedbythefrontcoverof"SueddeutscheZeitung"featuringanudemodelwiththeword'Versace'drawninaheartacrossherchest.Tellerepitomisestheshiftawayfromformalfashionphotographytothemoreraw,apparentlyspontaneouslookperfectedinhisMarcJacobscampaignsandhispersonalwork.MarcJacobs'adshaveoftenreflectedhiscloserelationshipswithartists,andinthisinstanceheinvitedCindyShermantoworkwithTeller.Overtheyears,Shermanhasregularlyusedfashioninherwork-alwaysworkingaloneinherstudioasthephotographer,model,stylistandconsumer,etc.Thisisherfirstcollaborationwithanotherphotographer.
