NicolaArmaroligothisPhDinchemicalsciencesin1994fromtheUniversityofBologna.Afterpost-doctoralstudiesintheU.S.andItaly,in1997hejoinedtheItalianNationalResearchCouncil(CNR),whereheiscurrentlyresearchdirector.Hehaspublishedthreebooksandover150papers,givingtensoflecturesworldwide.Hiscurrentresearchisconcernedwiththephotochemistryandphotophysicsofcoordinationcompounds,carbonnanostructuresandsupramolecularmaterials,withfocusonluminescenceandphotoinducedenergy-andelectron-transfer.Thisworkisofinterestbothinfundamentalscienceandtechnologicalapplications,suchassolarenergyconversionandlightingdevices.VincenzoBalzanigainedhischemistrydegreein1960fromtheUniversityofBologna,wherehehasbeenProfessorofChemistrysince1973.HehasbeenavisitingProfessorinCanada,Israel,FranceandBelgium,headedvariousscientificcommitteesandinstitutesandhasheldover300lecturesworldwide.Alongsidehismembershipofseveraleditorialboards,Prof.Balzanihassixbooksandover500paperstohisname.Heisafellowofnumeroussocieties,andhaswonmanyawardsaroundtheworld.Hisresearchinterestsincludephotochemistry,photophysics,supramolecularchemistry,electrontransferreactions,molecular-leveldevicesandmachines,molecularnanotechnology,andphotochemicalsolarenergyconversion.
