DesmondJohnMorris,FZS(born24January1928)isanEnglishzoologist,ethologistandsurrealistpainter,aswellasapopularauthorinhumansociobiology.AfterreceivinghisdoctoraldegreefromOxfordUniversity,Morriscontinuedonpost-doctorallyatOxfordUniversityconductingresearchonthereproductivebehaviorofbirds.Aftersometimeelapsed,includingMorris’smovetoLondonin1956,hethencebeganaresearchprojectintothepicturemakingabilitiesofapes.Thefollowingyearof’57heorganizesanexhibitionattheInstituteofContemporaryArtsinLondon,allofpaintingsanddrawingscomposedbychimpanzees.Later,in1958heco-organizesaninterestingexhibitionofwhichcomparedpicturesmadebythelikesofinfants,humanadults,aswellasapes.TheeventwascalledTheLostImage,itwasheldattheRoyalFestivalHallinLondon.AfterassumingthepositionofCuratorin1959,Desmond’supcomingyearsbegintofillwithstringsandstringsofbookstobereleasedonthetopicsofanimalbehavior,art,manycenteringonthetopicofhumanbehavior,aswellascomparisonstoprimates;viewinghumanityasrevolutionizedfromthehunter-gathertothecitydweller.MorrisContinuesonpublishingbookscoveringinfantbehaviorwatching,aswellasmanwatching,andwatchingsofvarioustypesofanimalssuchascatsanddogs.Morris'worksarepublishedalmostworldwide.Hisfirstbookthatconcernedactualhumanbehaviorwaspublishedin1967titledTheNakedApeaZoologistsstudyoftheHumanasanrevolutionizedanimal,ofwhichgainedmoresuccessthanwhathadbeenanticipated.Followingitssuccess,in1968MorrismovestotheMediterraneanislandofMaltainordertofocusonpreparingasequelaswellasfreelypaintingandotheractivities.Shortlythereafter,withbooksstillcontinuouslybeingpublished,in1971heopenedhisresearchheadquartersinMalta.Specifically,inordertoconductresearchtowardsproducinganencyclopediaofallhumanactions,morespecifically,toclassifyallhumanaction-patterns.However,in1973DesmondleftMaltareturningtoworkfortheNobelPrizewinnerNikoTinbergen,inhisresearchgroupstudyinganimalbehavior,withthedepartmentofZoologyatOxfordUniversity.AftersometimeelapsesfilledwithmorebookpublicationsflowingalongsidevariousotherattributesofMorris'scareers,in1982hebeginstolookintoarchaeologicalresearchesforanew,slightlydifferentbookTheArtofAncientCyprus.Ascreativemindswonder,MorrislaterthefollowingyearpublishesaquiteinterestingBookofAges,ayear-by-yearaccountofhumanlifefrombirthtodeath.FinishingTheArtofAncientCyprusthenextyear,1984,published85.Desmond’sfollowingresearchprojectwasconductedin1988,respectivelyonthecolorsusedindecoratinghumanhomes.ThefindingsanddatawerebroughttogetherthatsameyearwithinareportcalledNestbuilders.ThroughouthisentirecareerDesmondMorrishaswrittenalmostcountlessbookscontinuouslyontheobservationsoflife,humans,animals,andevenpaintingsaswellaschildren'sbooksonthematters.Despiteallofhisotherinterests,themajorityofhisbookstookplaceunderthecategoryofsociobiology.
