Thisbookdescribesaconsistentanddirectmethodologytotheanalysisanddesignofanalogcircuitswithparticularapplicationtocircuitscontainingfeedback.Theanalysisanddesignofcircuitscontainingfeedbackisgenerallypresentedbyeitherfollowingaseriesofexampleswhereeachcircuitissimplifiedthroughtheuseofinsightorexperience(someoneelse’s),oracompletenodal-matrixanalysisgeneratinglotsofalgebra.Neitheroftheseapproachesleadstogaininginsightintothedesignprocesseasily.Theauthordevelopsasystematicapproachtocircuitanalysis,theDrivingPointImpedanceandSignalFlowGraphs(DPI/SFG)methodthatdoesnotrequirea-prioriinsighttothecircuitbeingconsideredandresultsinfactoredanalysissupportingthedesignfunction.Thisapproachenablesdesignerstoaccountfullyforloadingandthebi-directionalnatureofelementsbothinthefeedbackpathandintheamplifieritself,propertiesmanytimesassumednegligibleandignored.Feedbackcircuitsareshowntobedirectlyandcompletelyhandledwithlittlemoreeffortthanthatforopenloopdesigns. ·      Enablesdeep,functionalunderstandingoffeedbackinanalogcircuits;·      Describesanew,systematicapproachtocircuitanalysisusingDrivingPointImpedanceandSignalFlowGraphs(DPI/SFG);·      Includescorrectionstoboththe‘openingtheloop’andBodeReturnRatioMethods.

AgustinOchoareceivedhisB.S.fromtheUniversityofArizonain1971,hisM.S.fromStanfordUniversity('72),andreturnedtotheUniversityofArizonaforhisPh.D.('77)inelectricalengineeringwithminorsinphysicsandmathematics.HebeganhisworkingcareeratSandiaNationalLaboratoriesinAlbuquerqueNewMexicoworkingonCMOStechnologydevelopment,radiationhardening,anddeviceissues.In1986hejoinedHughesAircraftinCarlsbadCaliforniawherehebecamemanageroftheirBiCMOSdevelopmentgroup.Hisintereststhroughouthiscareerhavebeenindevicephysics,intransformmathematics,andinanalogcircuits.In1990heleftHughesAircrafttojoinasmallanalogdesignstartup,TechnologyApplicationsGroup,leavinghisseniordevicepositiontobecomeajunioranalogdesigner-theperfectcombinationofmath,devicebehavior,andanalogcircuitry,thinkingthatinafewyearshewouldlearnallheneededtobeafullanalogdesigner.Thenhehadtofacefeedback.Afterareviewofanalogtextsandmanydiscussionswithotherdesignershedevelopedanapproachtocircuitanalysis(DPI/SFG)combiningtheDrivingPointImpedancetechniqueofRubenKelly(Univ.ofNewMexico)withSignalFlowGraphs(SamMason).Dr.OchoacontinueddevelopingandapplyingtheDPI/SFGmethodologyforcircuitanalysiswithparticularapplicationtofeedbacksystemsinhisworkatABBHafo,Brooktree/Rockwell/Conexant,FairchildSemiconductor,XtremeSpectrum,Zarlink,Ramtron/CypressSemiconductor,andnowasanindependentconsultantasXtremeAnalogCircuitTechnology(XACT),workingonclassicandverylowpoweranalogamplifiers,referencecells,regulators,plls,crystaloscillators,activefilters,RFIDdevelopment,andelementsofRF.Dr.OchoahastaughtattheUniversityofNewMexicoandattheUniversityofCaliforniaatSanDiegoasanadjunctprofessor,publishedandlecturedonfeedbackanalysisandanalogdesignsince1994.Hehasbeenawarded6patentswithanother6pending.And24yearslater,heisstilllearninganalogdesign.,,
