作者简介

TennesseeWilliamswasbornin1911inColumbus,Mississippi,wherehisgrandfatherwastheepiscopalclergyman.Whenhisfather,atravellingsalesman,movedwithhisfamilytoStLouissomeyearslater,bothheandhissisterfounditimpossibletosettledowntocitylife.HeenteredcollegeduringtheDepressionandleftafteracoupleofyearstotakeaclericaljobinashoecompany.Hestayedtherefortwoyears,spendingtheeveningwriting.HeenteredtheUniversityofIowain1938andcompletedhiscourse,atthesametimeholdingalargenumberofpart-timejobsofgreatdiversity.HereceivedaRockefellerFellowshipin1940forhisplayBattleofAngels,andhewonthePulitzerPrizein1948and1955.AmonghismanyotherplaysPenguinhavepublishedSummerandSmoke(1948),TheRoseTattoo(1951),CaminoReal(1953),BabyDoll(1957),OrpheusDescending(1957),SomethingUnspoken(1958),SuddenlyLastSummer(1958),PeriodofAdjustment(1960),TheNightoftheIguana(1961),TheMilkTrainDoesn'tStopHereAnymore(1963),andSmallCraftWarnings(1972).TennesseeWilliamsdiedin1983.田纳西·威廉斯(TennesseeWilliams,1911-1983),是美国20世纪最伟大的三大戏剧家之一(另外两位是尤金·奥尼尔和阿瑟·米勒),同时也是全世界范围内最重要的剧作家之一。1948年和1955年分别以其《欲望号街车》及《热铁皮屋顶上的猫》两度赢得普利策奖和戏剧评论奖;《玻璃动物园》和《鬣蜥之夜》也分别于1945年和1961年拿下纽约戏剧评论奖,1952年的《玫瑰黥纹》获得托尼奖最佳戏剧奖殊荣。
