SusanMeddaughwasbornandraisedinMontclair,NewJersey.ShegraduatedfromWheatonCollege,whereshestudiedFrenchliteratureandfinearts.AfterworkingbrieflywithanadvertisingagencyinNewYork,shemovedtoBostonandworkedatapublishingcompanyfortenyears,firstasadesigner,thenarteditor,andfinallyasartdirector.Whilethere,shedidtheillustrationsforGoodStones(HoughtonMifflin)byAnneEpstein,andthendecidedtostrikeoutonherownasafreelanceillustratorandcreatorofchildren'sbooks.Sincethattime,Susanhaswrittenandillustratedmanypopularbooksforchildren,includingMarthaSpeaks,whichwaschosenasaNewYorkTimesBestIllustratedBookfor1992.In1998shewasawardedtheNewEnglandBookAward,givenbytheNewEnglandBooksellersAssociationtorecognizeabodyofwork.HerworkalsowasacknowledgedwithaNewYorkTimesBestIllustratedAward.ShelivesinSherborn,Massachusetts.
