作者简介

W.G.SebaldwasborninWertachimAllgäu,Germany,in1944.HestudiedGermanlanguageandliteratureinFreiburg,Switzerland,andManchester.HetaughtattheUniversityofEastAngliainNorwich,England,forthirtyyears,becomingprofessorofEuropeanliteraturein1987,andfrom1989to1994wasthefirstdirectoroftheBritishCentreforLiteraryTranslation.Hispreviouslytranslatedbooks—TheRingsofSaturn,TheEmigrants,Vertigo,andAusterlitz—havewonanumberofinternationalawards,includingtheNationalBookCriticsCircleAward,theLosAngelesTimesBookAward,theBerlinLiteraturePrize,andtheLiteraTourNordPrize.HediedinDecember2001.IainGalbraithwasborninGlasgowin1956andstudiedmodernlanguagesandcomparativeliteratureattheuniversitiesofCambridge,Freiburg,andMainz,wherehetaughtforseveralyears.HehaseditedworksbyStevenson,Hogg,Scott,Boswell,andConrad,andcontributedessaystomanybooksandjournalsintheU.K.,France,andGermany.HeisawidelypublishedtranslatorofGerman-languagewriting,especiallypoetry,intoEnglish,winningtheJohnDrydenPrizeforLiteraryTranslationin2004.,,,
