埃里克・B.沙姆斯，OriginallyfromBritishColumbia,Canada,EricSzarmesreceivedhisBachelorofAppliedScienceinEngineeringPhysicsfromtheUniversityofBritishColumbiain1985,andhisPhDinAppliedPhysicsfromStanfordUniversityin1992,wherehedidhisdoctoralresearchinhighresolutionfree-electronlaserspectroscopyunderProfessorJohnMadey.HewasapostdoctoralresearchscientistattheDukeFree-ElectronLaserLaboratoryfrom1992to1998,wherehemadepioneeringcontributionstothephase-lockedandchirped-pulsefree-electronlaser.In1998hejoinedthefacultyoftheUniversityofHawaiiwhereheiscurrentlyanassociateprofessorofphysics.Hiscurrentresearchinterestsincludethetheoryanddesignofnovelopticalresonatorsforhigh-resolutionfree-electronlaserspectroscopy,x-raygenerationandhigh-fieldphysics.Hisgreatestpassionisforteaching.
