ThomasElsaesser，adirectorattheMax-Born-Institute,Berlin,Germany,andafullprofessorforexperimentalphysicsatHumboldtUniversity,Berlin.HereceivedaDrrer.nat.degreefromtheTechnicalUniversityofMunichin1986andworkedthereasaresearchassociateuntil1993.HespentapostdocperiodatAT&TBellLaboratories,Holmdel,in1990andjoinedthenewlyestablishedMax-Born-Institutein1993.Hisresearchfocusesonultrafastphenomenaincondensedmatter,inparticularmolecularliquids,biomoleculesintheiraqueousenvironment,andinorganicsolidsandnanostructures.Combinedinhisexperimentalworkaremethodsofultrafastspectroscopyandstructureresearch.ThomasisafellowoftheAmericanPhysicalSocietyandtheOpticalSocietyofAmericaandhasreceivednumerousscientificawards.KlausReimann，hasworkedsince1999asascientistattheMax-Born-Institute,Berlin,Germany,inthefieldofultrafastmid-infraredandTHzspectroscopy.HereceivedaDrrer.nat.degreefromtheUniversity（nowTechnicalUniversity）ofDortmundin1987.AfterwardshejoinedtheMax-Planck-InstitutfurFestkorperforschunginStuttgartandworkedthereonthephysicsofsemiconductorsunderhighpressures.Havingreceivedafive-yearHeisenberg-StipendiumoftheDeutscheForschungsgemeinschaft,hespentthistimeattheUniversitatDortmundandattheUniversityofCaliforniaatBerkeleydoingresearchonnonlinearopticsofsemiconductorsunderhighpressurebeforejoiningtheMBI.MichaelWoerner，adepartmentheadattheMax-Born-Institute,Berlin,Germany,andholdsalecturerqualification（Habilitation）inphysicsatHumboldtUniversity,Berlin.HereceivedaDrrer.nat.degreefromtheTechnicalUniversityofMunichin1991andworkedthereasapostdocuntil1993.HethenjoinedtheMax-Born-Institutein1993andspentapostdocperiodatBellLaboratories（LucentTechnologies）,Holmdel,in1997.Michael\'sresearchfocusesonultrafastphenomenainsolidsandnanostructureswithpioneeringworkinmulti-dimensionalspectroscopiesintheTHzfrequencyrangeandinfemtosecondx-raydiffractionusinglaser-drivenhardx-raysources.
