Simonisastudentofmagic,occultism,andreligionsincethemid-1960sandtheeditoroftheNecronomicon,SimonwasafrequentlecturerforthefamedWarlockShopinBrooklynandtheMagickalChildeBookstoreinManhattanformorethantenyearsbeforehissuddendisappearancein1984,speakingontopicsasdiverseasreligionandpolitics,occultismandfascism,ceremonialmagic,demonolatry,theTarot,theQabala,andAsianoccultsystems.HealsoconductedprivateclassesfortheNewYorkCityOTOduringthisperiod,withafocusonEnochianmagic,"Owanderingbishops,"andAfro-Caribbeanoccultbeliefs.AnordainedpriestofanEasternOrthodoxchurch,Simonhasappearedontelevisionandradiodiscussingsuchtopicsasexorcism,satanism,andNazism.Themediaeventsheorganizedinthe1970sand1980s--withrockbands,ritualperformances,andcelebrityappearances--helpedtopromotethe"occultrenaissance"inNewYorkCity.AfterdecadesofstudyinEuropean,Asian,andLatinAmericancultcenters,thisbookmarkshisfirstpublicappearanceinmorethantwentyyears.
