AdamPrzeworski(born1940)isaPolish-AmericanprofessorofPoliticalScience.Oneofthemainimportanttheoristsandanalysersofdemocraticsocieties,theoryofdemocracyandpoliticaleconomy,heiscurrentlyafullprofessorattheWilfFamilyDepartmentofPoliticsofNewYorkUniversity.Bornin1940inWarsaw,Poland,PrzeworskigraduatedfromWarsawUniversityin1961.Soonafterwards,hemovedtotheUnitedStates,wherehereceivedhisPh.D.atNorthwesternUniversityin1966.HetaughtattheUniversityofChicago,wherehewasawardedwiththetitleofMartinA.RyersonDistinguishedServiceProfessor.HealsoheldvisitingappointmentsinIndia,Chile,GreatBritain,France(amongothers,attheAmericanUniversityofParis),Germany,Spain(JuanMarchInstitute),andSwitzerland.Since1991,PrzeworskihasbeenamemberoftheAmericanAcademyofArtsandSciences,andin2001sharedtheWoodrowWilsonPrizeforthebookDemocracyandDevelopment.Todate,hehasauthored13booksandnumerousarticles.PrzeworskiwasamemberoftheSeptemberGroupofAnalyticalMarxists,butleftthegroupintheearly1990s.
